NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT)
is designed to develop
NRA Certified Instructors
with the knowledge, skills,
and attitude necessary
to conduct the NRA Basic Firearm
Training Courses,
and is a pre-requisite for
all instructor-level courses.
The NRA class provides individuals
with specialized knowledge,
the opportunity to learn how
to conduct a course in accordance
with the NRA's standards, resulting in
their students obtaining recognized
NRA certification.
This course is designed to educate participants
on the policies and procedures necessary to
become an NRA instructor and an effective
teaching methods for training students.
The NRA Basic Instructor Training
commences with an icebreaker exercise on
"How to Introduce a Speaker."
Participants are paired with another
Instructor Candidate, where they exchange
information, and introduce each other to the class.
This exercise aims to teach participants
how to think independently while providing
constructive feedback and praise.
Our program aims to help individuals overcome
shyness and develop practical communication skills
with a group of people who rely on
them for positive instruction.
Our classes foster an environment where fellow
students assist in ensuring each participant's success.
All courses include the necessary
NRA documentation, instructor guides,
student packets, instruction,
and follow-up support.
Participants will receive everything
required to take and teach each course.
Please note that processing fees are payable
to the NRA is due upon class completion,
which is determined by the number
and type of courses attended.
This course is at least six hours and
covers the following topics:
Introducing a speaker, the instructor, and the
NRA Basic Firearm Training Program,
using a training team,
training materials, and aids,
organizing a course, and preparing to teach.
Upon completing the NRA Basic Instructor Training
and achieving a minimum score of 90% on the
Trainers Examination, you will be deemed
prepared for the discipline-specific instructor training
class appropriate for your qualifications and enrollment.
This may include Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun,
or Personal Protection training.
Attending both the student- and instructor-level classes and
demonstrating your qualifications through the Pre-Course Qualification
tests associated with the specific discipline are mandatory.
The initial day of most NRA instructor training courses
comprises a 6-hour Basic Instructor Training (BIT) session.
It is important to note that current instructors seeking to add a rating may
be required to attend another Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Course
if they have not completed the course within the previous two years.
