The main areas to consider when
choosing a conceal-and-carry class includes:
legal considerations
situational awareness
firearm safety
handling and operation
mental preparation.
This list is not exhaustive, and there are many other
essential elements to understand and consider.
Legal considerations are the foundation of responsibly carrying a concealed weapon.
This involves understanding the laws related to carrying and using a concealed firearm.
It is critical to know when it is lawful to display, brandish, or discharge a firearm.
Situational awareness means being aware of your surroundings at all times.
It involves recognizing potential threats or dangers and acting most responsibly.
Knowing the color codes of awareness is essential in a conceal-and-carry class.
Firearm safety is a broad area that covers a range of topics, from storage
and transport to firearm operation, maintenance, and malfunctions.
Safe handling rules and procedures must be
ingrained in every responsible firearm owner.
Training should cover the various types of firearms used
in a concealed carry situation and the specifics of each.
Finally, mental preparation for carrying a firearm is
an aspect that is often overlooked.
Individuals should prepare for the possibility of
needing to use their firearm in a high-stress situation.
Mental drills, decision-making exercises, and
situational judgement scenarios
should be included in comprehensive training.
The ultimate goal of a conceal-and-carry class is to ensure
that all those who complete it have the skills and knowledge
necessary to carry and use a firearm responsibly and effectively.
It should instill in the participant a sense of duty, respect,
and humility for the privilege of carrying a firearm.
Continual education and training is recommended for
those who wish to carry concealed weapons to maintain
and enhance their knowledge and skills.
