What You'll Learn at Alex Tactical Basics of Pistol Shooting

Keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Trigger discipline is where your finger

stays outside the trigger guard area,

pressing it against the frame above the

trigger area and parallel with the barrel,

until ready to fire the gun.

Until you are prepared to fire,

 do not touch the trigger.

Keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

Be aware of your target and what’s behind it

Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possible, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun alone and get help from someone who does.

Be aware of your target and what’s behind it

 Be sure you have identified

your target beyond any doubt.

Be aware of the area beyond your target.

This means observing your prospective

area of fire before you shoot.

Never fire in a direction where there

are people or any other potential mishap. Think first. Shoot second.

Prevents Negligent Discharge

Prevents Negligent Discharge

You’re a safe, responsible gun owner.

You follow the Four Rules of Gun Safety

as if your life depends on them.

There is no way that you can

have a negligent discharge.

In the case of a negligent discharge, the fault lies entirely with the person handling the gun and could have been prevented.

Which states will recognize your CCW permit?

Reciprocity Means =

(mutual recognition agreement between two states to recognize a concealed weapon license issued by the other state)

Florida has reciprocity agreements with 37 states while acknowledging some state-specific exceptions.

Before handling a gun, learn how it operates. Know its basic parts, how to safely open and close the action and remove any ammunition from the gun or magazine. Remember, a gun's mechanical safety device is never foolproof. Nothing can ever replace safe gun handling.

Target vs. Defense Ammunition

Know how to use the gun safely.

Know how to use the gun safely.

While target ammunition may be less expensive, it is also less effective because of its design. Target ammunition will not expand or fragment when it hits a target simply because that is not what it is designed to do.

Penetration vs Expansion

Know how to use the gun safely.

Penetration vs Expansion

To examine the effects of handgun penetration through walls. The speciality rounds still penetrate around 6 inches of drywall, and the more traditional bullets average 10-12 inches of drywall penetration.  This means that if the bullet hit nothing more serious than drywall, it would go through at least six rooms!
